Petar CulicLast night in St.Joseph's church in Dugi Rat we participated in one of the most exciting moments of this year's Dugi Rat summer festival. After a few years, we were able once again to enjoy the guitar concert performed by young Petar Čulić in his own home town. He treated the audience with impressive interpretations of compositions by Albeniz, Tedesco, Giuliani and other guitar classics, as well as his own compositions titled ''The sea', ''Espana'', and ''The little prince'' which completely delighted the listeners. Čulić admitted to being nervous, even more than before his numerous concerts in prestigious guitar festivals and competitions abroad. Well, I guess it must be like that when one performs before the familiar audience in his home town. I believe that even those with little knowledge of culture and cultural events in our town and its surroundings have heard of Petar Čulić. Although he is only 23, our prince of classical guitar has already got a long line of acknowledgments and medals behind him. He has really done a lot and reached the peak in his field of activity, but he has achieved even more with his unyielding promotion of Dugi Rat and Dalmatia as cultural destinations.

A guiding light to all young people of Dalmatia PDF Print E-mail

svjetionik''I will graduate in this year, but I still don't know where to continue my education. But I know for sure that I want to continue living in Dugi Rat. No money in the world could ever buy that feeling of being home, in Dalmatia, surrounded by people you love...''
You may think what you want about these words uttered by our young musician from Dugi Rat, but I will include them in my book of quotes by other prominent individuals in the world. Indeed, we are talking about love for your hometown, for Dalmatia and it can be felt most intensely when you are there, in good and bad, in sickness and health, sharing everything with its people, not through greetings from Vienna, Munich, New York, Toronto, Perth... and all the other places... this young musician, who can choose the addresss to live at, actually wants to stay here, to continue his education and professional development, as well as to organize numerous other events (Split Guitar Festival, which is the most important but not the only activity Petar has been involved in and devoting his time and energy to...). He says that successful individuals do not have to leave Dugi Rat, Split, Dalmatia and he says it TODAY, when young people who want to succeed in their lives and carreers almost definitely have to leave this (at the moment) perspectiveless city in order to achieve something in their lives...

Petar CulicThe last days of the year, besides good food, holidays, the return of the students from Zagreb, parties and drinking coffee, are also the perfect time to review the previous year, to choose the most important events, the most influential persons of the year, economists, musicians, sportspersons, books (Croatian, foreign, publicist writing, comic books), music albums (Croatian, foreign, new, according to the music critics), film and theatre actors, films and, unfortunately, politicians... people from Dugi Rat, actually the city council of Dugi Rat, have chosen the best high school and university students and sportspersons, and the event of the year in our little town is - the sale of the Dalmacija factory and Dalmacija CG columns.among the cultural events, we cannot possibly forget to mention the Petar Čulić phenomeno - this young guitarist from Dugi Rat has been holding concerts, plundering awards at guitar contests all over the world, studying, teaching, and also organizing the Split Guitar Festival, thus becoming the „unofficial" candidate for Dugi Rat's person of the year...

Petar CulicDear Petar,

I am writing to thank you very much for your kind generosity in coming to play a concert for us whilst you were in the UK. Your concert was absolutely wonderful and the audience were impressed by your choice of music as well as your extraordinary talent. The monie raised from your perfomance will go towards the new school being built in Simba, in the Kenyan Rift Valley. The children there have no educational prospects at the moment, and people like you are helping to change that. Simba school will offer the children of Simba community an educated future and a chance to leave poverty behind.

Petar CulicConcert 11.09.2006. Split
Petar Culic
provided all the guitar and classical music lovers with a superior experience. Most of the audience had probably expected to hear another average guitar concert, since Petar is a 20-year-old guitarist. However, just a few bars of Bach's G-minor Sonata were enough to make it clear that it was going to be an exceptional evening, not only for this young artist, but also for the audience. They followed Petar's first performed composition with a very long applause, wich is not usual for the beginning of a concert. The connection between Petar and the audience could be felt in the air. The audience showed admiration for each performed tone, and gave another loud greetings to the young musician after the regular part of the concert.

Petar CulicConcert 16.05.2005. Split

"...Petar Čulić's guitar recital was a true revalation, even for those who know him well and follow his musical achievements with attention. The young guitarist has developed into an anchanting interpreter. He plays with comittment, freely and honestly, and his ideas follow one another in a clear and most logical way. The most noticable thing about his expression is its clearness - following the distinctly well-defined themes and their transformations filled with a string of crystal clear details is indeed an enjoyable experience.
His innate musicality, which could be felt in his tonal expressions every since his early boyhood, finally shone through with unhidden, true artistic sensitivity
In that sense, the audience were amazed by Čulić's interpretation of his own composition mysteriously named «M», and overall reach of the concert considerably outgrew the expected student framework.
Soro's «Introduction and variations to the French song» op. 24 had already been heard in the current season, but Čulić's  inerpretation was undoubtedly stronger and more integral.
The impressively fine illumination of all other compositions (Bach, Milotti, Ponce, Piazzolla) rise Čulić to the rank of mature musician with great and universal possibilities. The young artist also performed two extra compositions (Dyens, Koškin) in response to the delighted audience...
