Petar CulicAnyone who attended this great event would agree that the organization was brilliant, the guitarist were excellent, the quality of competition was exceptional, the concert halls were full (1500 members of audience at 5 concerts) and it was, indeed, magnificient!!!  Split Guitar Festival has brought together 5 concerts, 250 hours of masterclass and contests which took place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Shipbuilding, the Art Academy, the Film Library „Zlatna vrata", the Croatian Officcers' Home „Lora" and the Croatian National Theatre. The overall award was about 30 000 euro, of which 10 000 euro were awards in cash and remaining 20 000 euro was the value of other awards (hand-made guitars, equipment, etc).

The cultural significance of Split Guitar Festival is reflected in the very names of some of the most respected guitarists and teachers in the world today, who were willing to actively participate and this contribute to the reputation of the festival. Here are some of them: Ana Vidović, Aniello Desiderio, Carlo marchione, Pavel Steidl, Costas Cotsiolis, Zoran Dukić, Maroje Brčić, Xhevdet Sahatxhija, Goran Listeš, Ramon Carnota Mendez, Vladislav Blaha, Claudio Pio Liviero, Joszef Eotvos...

These artists, with their impressive talent which has made them the most prestigios musicians in the world today, won numerous first awards: Ana Vidović - „Albert Augustina International Competition" in Bath, Great Britain, „Fernando Sor Competition" in Rome, Italy and „Francisco Tarrega Competition" in Benicasimo, Spain; Aniello Desiderio „Donia Competition" in Messina, Italy, International guitar competition in Havana, Cuba, „The Neapolitan of the Year award", Italy, International competition „Francisco Tarrega" in Spain, International competition „Citta di Sanremo", Italy, international competition „Guerrero", Madrid, Spain, „Artists in Residence" award from DLF, German funk, Germany and Musikfest Bremen, Germany; Carlo marchione - Ancona „L.Legnani Parma", „M.Giuliani", Ville de Sable", Gargano, „N.Paganini", Citta di Latina"; Zoran Dukić - he is the only guitarist who has won both internatinal competitions „Andres Segovia" (in Granada and Palma de Mallorca respectively) and he was also the winner of the following competitions: „Fernando Sor, „Manuel Ponce, „Manuel de Falla" and „Francisco Tarrega". At the greatest Spanish guitar competition in Madrid, held under the auspices of the royal family, he won both the first and the special award for the interpretation of Spanish music. He is also generally known as the guitarist who has won the greatest number of first awards at the competition all around the world.

Our guests have a record of numerous concerts in the most prestigious concert halls all around the world, such as: „Chajkovski conservatoire" in Moscow, „Wigmore Hall" in London, Radio France Auditorium in Paris, Concertgebow Amsterdam, BBC Concert hall, Alt Opere Frankfurt, Palais de Beaux Arts, Brussels, Concert hall in Athens (Megaron), Palais de Congress in Paris, Herodium (Acropolis Theatre), the home of great pianist Maria Joao Piresa in Belgais, Madrid concert halls, etc.

The same musicians have also performed in St. Petersburg's Philharmonic Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with the philharmonic orchestras in Czech Republic, Zagreb and Madrid, with Belgium Chamber Orchestra „I.Fiamminghi", „Odon Alonso" Symphonic orchestra from Lion, „Germainans" orchestra from Jove, Maastricht Conservatoire Symphonic Orchestra and „Acros" chamber orchestra from La Coruna. The list also includes the famous symphonic orchestras such as „Broadcasting" in Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels, BBC, Junge Deutche Philharmonie, Queen Sofia in Madrid, Cannes, as well as the Orchestra of Dubrovnik an the Croatian Radio-television Syphonic Orchestra.
There was also a concert eveving in the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Split, where a Czech guitar virtuoso, Pavel Steidl,performes together with the 5th category finalists of the competition.

The festival gathered 200 participants from all over the world (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Romania, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, Bellarus, Great Britain, Greece, Chile and South Korea).
It is very important to pointout that the festival has already been promoted via the world's guitar internet sites, daily newspapers and the specialized guitar magazines from USA, Europe and China, as well as the world's famous TV stations such as RAI DUE and CNN.

The aim of this international classical guitar festival in Croatia was to achive the evaluation of the guitar school in Croatia, together with its artists and to improve the collaboration with international cultural institutions, artists and other organizations, as well as to bring together other guitar expressions in one cultural event.
